EM, Hay Runner Partner on New Apprenticeship

June 12, 2024 · Opportunity in Cabinetmaking a First for Rockport Contractor

Hay Runner of Rockport is partnering with Educate Maine to offer a new three-year apprenticeship aimed at a career in cabinet making.

This full-time, paid apprenticeship – a first for the contractor -- offers a position as a Hay Runner employee while providing direct one-on-one mentorship, integration into a cabinet shop team, and additional related training.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the right person to earn, learn and gain valuable skills in a highly desired career path,” said Hannah Greene, senior workforce development specialist for Educate Maine.

“We have been looking for ways to support the next generation of woodworkers at Hay Runner,” said Rachel Davis, the millwork division foreman. “We are excited to offer an opportunity that is both rewarding and has a real future trajectory. The cabinet shop at Hay Runner is geared up to integrate a new learner as they enter the workforce, fostering their growth through a high level of craftsmanship and in a great working environment.”

Starting with the foundations of cabinetry, the apprentice will learn high-end casework, millwork, window and door production, and installation, while being a contributing member of the shop team.

Over the course of three years, there will be opportunities to explore particular interests and support to specialize.

Hay Runner is a multifaceted contractor that does everything from property sales and maintenance to building and design.
