· Bangor Region - Workforce Development Specialist
The Workforce Development Specialist is responsible for supporting and coordinating a portfolio of experiential learning and STEM learning pathway programs that connect learners with career and professional development opportunities throughout Maine. This position will develop and manage partnerships, events, and programming that expand access to internships, apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships, and other workforce pathway initiatives.
This remote position is based in the Penobscot County region and will report to the Manager, Workforce Partnerships. The Specialist will work closely with internal teams including Maine Career Catalyst, Project>Login, and the Maine Mobile Biolab, along with external partners such as employers, industry associations and advisory councils, workforce development boards/organizations, and education providers (high schools/CTE schools, adult education, and 2- and 4-year colleges and universities) to strengthen connections between education and industry. Additionally, this role will assist the leadership team in designing and implementing broader strategic goals, such as incubating pilot programs and fostering industry partnerships to enhance workforce and STEM pathways.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Experiential Learning Program Development
- Work closely with employers to create, implement, and expand internship, registered apprenticeship, and certified pre-apprenticeship programs
- Design, promote, and implement events focused on expanding quality experiential learning opportunities for learners working with Maine employers
- Contribute to the strategy for recruitment, assessment, development, and retention throughout the apprentice and pre-apprentice lifecycle
- Plan and execute virtual and in-person events for Maine Career Catalyst’s flagship summer internship program
- Support the development of year-round program engagement with partner businesses, their in-school and opportunity-youth hires, program alumni, and campus events and activities
- Collaborate with CTE schools to expand employer engagement and experiential learning opportunities
- Support and maintain relevant program marketing and social media content
- Report successes and challenges to internal and external stakeholders
STEM Pathway Initiatives
- Work with leadership to develop and implement local and regional school and educator learning and engagement plans
- Coordinate events and educator professional development activities, including research, scheduling, communications, logistics, participant support, and accurate recordkeeping
- Provide back-up support for educators facilitating age-appropriate STEM activities and extended or enrichment opportunities to students onboard the mobile laboratory
- Serve as the point of contact for Maine Mobile BIOLAB school visits and community events, including school administration and educators working on the lab
- Contribute to professional development programs and other engagement or awareness events hosted by Educate Maine or in partnership with other organizations
General
- Identify lessons learned through evaluation findings and make recommendations regarding program design
- Attend conferences and meetings related to work-based and STEM learning
- Assist with fundraising, including grants and event sponsorships
- Attend networking and professional development events to cultivate relationships with industry, non-profit, education, and business partners at all levels
- Support planning and execution of the annual Education Symposium
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields, such as workforce development, organizational development, human resources, non-profit management, recruiting
- Ability to self-start and creatively solve problems
- Excellent verbal and written communications; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong partnership and collaboration skills
- Ability to work autonomously as well as with a team
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
- Ability to organize and direct multiple activities simultaneously
- Ability to travel regionally and nationally and have a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience supporting Registered Apprenticeship Programs
This position is hybrid, requiring work both remotely and in-person. While flexible, it is designed to be generally remote, based out of the greater Bangor region in addition to in-person meetings and events across Maine regularly throughout the year. This position requires evening, weekend hours, and overnight trips as needed with advanced notice.
Salary + Benefits: The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000 annually. Benefits include a flexible work environment, 13 paid holidays, 15 vacation days, and 12 sick days per year.
