Educate Maine is seeking a Program Manager to play a key role in supporting the planning and execution of Educate Maine’s initiatives, with a primary focus on the Maine Teacher of the Year and Teach Maine Center programs. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and passionate about enhancing education in Maine. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in project management, communications, event planning, and, most importantly, amplifying the voices of Maine educators to promote positive change in education. We are seeking a dynamic individual eager to expand their skills and expertise in all facets of nonprofit work. The ideal candidate will:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development and Support:
- Manage the daily administration of the Maine Teacher of the Year program, ensuring efficient operations and fostering the program’s growth through increased awareness and participation
- Develop and manage the implementation of the County and State Teacher of the Year process and timeline.
- Provide support to the County and State Teachers of the Year throughout their year of recognition, ensuring a meaningful experience.
- Assist with the planning and execution of program events, including managing logistics and attending program activities to ensure smooth operations.
- Support program management, including coordinating logistics, scheduling, invoicing, and contracts.
- Serve as the State Coordinator of the National Teacher of the Year program and as the liaison with the Council of Chief State Schools Officers (CCSSO), including attending the annual National TOY orientation and quarterly virtual meetings.
- Track program milestones and report any issues to the Program Director.
- Collect and organize program data for reporting and evaluation purposes and to highlight the program’s impact and outcomes.
Events and Community Engagement:
- Assist in outreach efforts to engage educators and other stakeholders.
- Represent Educate Maine at community events and assist in promotional activities.
- Assist with event management planning and logistics, including the annual Educate Maine Symposium and the Teacher of the Year Gala.
Fundraising and Development:
- Assist with donor acknowledgments.
- Procure event sponsorships.
Marketing and Communications:
- Support the development, creation and distribution of branded materials and communications.
- Contribute to social media and e-newsletter content creation.
Administrative Support:
- Provide general administrative support as needed.
- Assist with program-related logistics related to ordering supplies, securing catering, setting up for events, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in a nonprofit or similar organizations. Previous volunteer or internship experience in a nonprofit may also count toward experience.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Canva or other graphic design Adobe Express or Creative Suite a plus! Experience with WordPress, Google Sites, Constant Contact, and/or SurveyMonkey preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Passion for nonprofit work and community service.
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds.
- Reliable transportation to represent Educate Maine at various events, including statewide travel.
- Ability to pass a Maine CHRC background check.
Work Environment: This is a hybrid position with a balanced mix of remote and in-person work. Occasional weekends and evenings required for event management. Educate Maine has a home office in Portland, ME but supports hybrid employees across Maine and applications are welcome from all areas of the state. Relocation is not provided.
Salary and Benefits: Benefits include a flexible work environment, 13 paid holidays, 15 vacation days in the first year of hire, and 12 sick days per year. We offer a competitive employer health insurance plan including an HSA plan, partial premium coverage for spouses and dependents, life insurance, short-term disability insurance, 5% employer contributions for retirement, and annual professional development funding to support your professional growth. Employees may also elect dental and vision insurance. The salary for this position is $58,000-$62,000 based on experience.
