Education Leaders Experience
About Us
Connecting Maine’s education, business, and policy leaders.
WHAT IS ELE?
The Education Leaders Experience (ELE) is a yearlong professional development program that immerses Maine educators in the state’s economy, workforce landscape, and the communities shaping Maine’s future. Participants engage directly with employers, business leaders, policymakers, and community partners to explore Maine’s workforce challenges and opportunities, and the critical role education plays in driving economic growth.
Past participants have forged lasting partnerships with Maine businesses, creating new learning opportunities for their students. Others have used the experience to launch entrepreneurial educational initiatives and programs. All leave with a broader professional network and a deeper understanding of how their work connects to Maine’s larger story.
ELE was developed and is funded by Unum. Educate Maine administers the program in partnership with the Maine Principals’ Association. The yearlong program includes an opening and closing retreat, visits to Maine businesses and institutions of higher education, and a visit to the State Legislature.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
ELE is designed for working educators in leadership roles who are ready to deepen their connection to Maine’s economy and bring new perspectives back to their schools and students. Strong candidates are eager to build relationships with business and community leaders, explore innovative approaches to education leadership, and expand what’s possible for the young people they serve.
